Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

FAQ therapeutic:

How often should I train with HeadApp?

Scientific studies have shown that the first improvements in the areas of attention and memory are measurable after 10-15 therapy units. Other studies prove that daily training is more effective than, for example, a training just once a week.

From these findings, we advise: In acute cases, use HeadApp 5 days a week for 30 to 60 minutes. To maintain your performance level, 3 training units per week – 30 minutes each – are enough.

Patients with severe attention disorders often have difficulties to concentrate on the training for 30 minutes. These users should use HeadApp several times a day for 10-15 minutes.

Using HeadApp for stroke patient (with problems in fine motor skills): Which input device/monitors do you recommend?

Stroke patients should use HeadApp on a PC (at a desk). Mobile devices are often difficult to handle for people with problems of the fine motor skills.

The monitor should be large enough in order to enable patients with problems of the visual function and in the field of vision to clearly see and recognize the images. Especially for patients with neglect and hemianopsia, a monitor equal to, or greater than, a 19” screen diagonal is recommended.

We recommend a touchscreen to operate HeadApp. Patients who are not able to use a mouse or a touchscreen (e.g. due to immobility/ weakness of the arms) can also use a keyboard.

Can I also operate HeadApp with a keyboard?

Yes, most modules can be operated with a keyboard.

The following keys can be used:
– arrow keys: to select objects
– spacebar or Enter/Return: to confirm the choice
– minus key (-): to access the break function
– plus key (+): to repeat the audio output or (in some modules) to use the zoom-feature

If you have the RehaComĀ® patient keyboard, it can also be used to operate HeadApp.

FAQ technical:

How many data are transferred from the Internet when using HeadApp?

HeadApp is rich in variety and appealing like no other therapy program. This is accomplished by comprehensive therapy material. Currently we offer more than 30,000 images – and this number increases every day.
This mass of data cannot be transferred onto the device during the installation. For this reason, the images are loaded from the internet during usage.

Depending on the module, up to 40MB of data volume are needed for one therapy unit (by default 30 min). Especially when using HeadApp on mobile devices, your provider might charge additional costs for mobile data.

Our advice: Costs for mobile data can be completely avoided when using HeadApp only in WLAN environment.

Are there minimum requirements on hardware, processor, memory, screen resolution, pixels and format 4:3 or 16:9(/10)?

Every hardware, processor, memory and screen is supported. The better the hardware, the faster HeadApp will run and the better the visual quality. We recommend that the computer / tablet PC / smartphone isn’t older than 5 years.

HeadApp automatically adjusts to each resolution in landscape format; 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 are possible.

Further details on the different operating systems can be found under Voice output and Start training.

I have a HeadApp Professional subscription. On how many devices can I install HeadApp?

HeadApp can be installed on any number of devices. The login email of the therapist / institution matters. With the version “12$ per month”, ten patients can train (even simultaneously on 10 computers / tablet PCs).

If the same Google Play Store / Apple App Store account is used on all tablet PCs, HeadApp Professional can be bought on one tablet PC and later be installed free of charge on all others.

We recommend that patients get the HeadApp Home version.
The first advantage: although the patient is training with HeadApp Home at home, the therapist is able to view all data and results in his/her office.
The second advantage: patients that have bought HeadApp Home are not included in the counting of “10 patients simultaneously for 12$ per month”.

We would like to use HeadApp Professional in our clinic / therapy practice with several clients. Does each client need an own email address, his/her personal one?

No. The clients don’t need an own email address as long as HeadApp is only used in your clinic / therapy practice and started by the therapist. However, if the client is training without supervision, the checkbox “Back to Login” (in the window “patients’ list”) should be marked to guarantee the necessary data privacy.

It is necessary for the client to enter an own email address and password when he/she has to log in independently or when the client is training at home (with HeadApp Home).
In this case, each client needs an own email address. Only separate logins (email addresses) allow a correct allocation of therapy processes and results to clients.

My Android tablet says when I go to HeadApp, the app is “maybe not optimized for my device”. What does this hint mean?

HeadApp runs on all devices with Android version 5.0 or higher. The current Android version is 7.1 (as of July 2018).
This message comes for all devices with Android versions “higher than 5”, because HeadApp software is optimized so that it runs on version 5. If we would optimize the software for version 6 or 7, older devices couldn’t use HeadApp anymore.
So it’s all right, this message is just a note, not an error message. HeadApp also runs on your device.
